Adventure North West is an outdoor pursuits company, delivering high quality activity days and half days, in Lancashire and the South Lakes. Our fully qualified instructors deliver, fun, adrenaline fuelled adventure sessions to, stag and hen groups, families, groups of friends and corporate organisations.
All our activities are private group sessions enabling us to create bespoke adventure days and activities to our customer’s individual preferences.
Prices
All our sessions are private bookings, as we find this works best for our customers, this suits couples, family and friendship groups, this makes your experience with us more personal to you and allows you to go at your own pace and level of experience.
The sessions are 3 hour morning and 3 hour afternoon for each activity

Water Based Adventures
Ghyll Scrambling (Gorge Walking)
Our ghyll scrambles/gorge walking sessions are suitable for most fitness levels. These sessions involve, scrambling up and over rocks in waterfalls and taking part in little water challenges along the way.
KAYAKING
With our qualified kayak coaches, we can support you to develop your kayak skills. We can take your group paddling on a journey around the lake or along a short, slow river. Our kayaking sessions can also incorporate some little challenges and kayak games whilst out on the water.
STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING (SUP)
We give our customers the opportunity to try out stand up paddle boarding. This can be a full session or mixed with our other paddle sports activity sessions.
RAFT BUILDING
This is the ideal activity for groups of 4 or more who want to challenge both the mind and body. The aim of the session is for you and your group to work out how to build a raft using only wooden spars, barrels, and rope. So, think carefully about how you build it, otherwise you might end up with a different view of the lake – when you are in it!

Abseiling
If you have a head for heights or wish to take yourself out of your comfort zone, why not challenge yourself to go over the edge?
Abseiling is a popular year-round activity.
Rock Climbing
Whether you are a complete beginner or have experience in climbing, we can literally show you the ropes!
On a real rock face in the outdoors, our climbing sessions are run by experienced SPA qualified instructors.
Ghyll Scrambling
Our ghyll scrambles/gorge walking sessions are suitable for most fitness levels. These sessions involve, scrambling up and over rocks in waterfalls and taking part in little water challenges along the way.
Bespoke Adventures
Hen Parties
If you are planning a Hen Party and are looking for something a bit different, why not contact us to see how we can help.? With activities tailored to suit your party you and your girlfriends friends can enjoy a fun packed day in the outdoors. We can also organise provide a buffet lunch if required.
Stag Parties
Getting out into the outdoors can be a unique and exciting way to celebrate your upcoming wedding day. Spend the day with your mates packed with a selection of fun packed activities. We can also provide a buffet lunch if required.
Team Building
 If you enjoy working out puzzles and like trying to solve practical problems, then our problem-solving tasks are likely to be the ideal activities for you. We have a vast array of problem-solving tasks within our repertoire and we can no doubt organise the perfect problem-solving day/half day for you and your group. We can create a bespoke session to meet your individual requirements. This activity is well suited to groups larger than 4 and corporate groups.
A Bit About Us
Adventure North West is an experienced, mobile, outdoor pursuits company. Our qualified instructors deliver a wide range of fun and exhilarating activities in the outdoors, within the North West. We are fully insured for all the activities that we deliver and provide all necessary safety equipment.
The Coniston area of the South Lakes, along with Langdale, near Ambleside are the locations where we most frequently deliver our activities. We also offer climbing and abseiling opportunities within the Chorley area of Lancashire. On occasions we use alternative locations or venues to run our activities. Adventure North West would always check the suitability of a new site prior to agreeing to deliver activities from them.
Adventure North West sessions are generally private bookings. Offering private bookings allows us to provide a personalised, tailored experience for our customers. This also enables our customers to choose their preferred activity, date and time (subject to availability at the time of booking).
The sites where we deliver our water activities are public areas, therefore, we provide changing tents for our customers to use when changing in and out of our wetsuits. Our operating times are between 9am and 4.30pm.
Adventure North West’s owner and Senior Instructor Tim Nicholson grew up in the Lake District and has worked in the outdoors for over 25 years, gaining a vast amount of experience and qualifications in the outdoors.
Tim has also worked for many outdoor providers and development training centres and gained a lot of group experience with events organising.

“Brilliant Abseil!”
My partner and I recently did an abseil at Hodge Close with Tim. It was my first time and Tim gave me loads of confidence and encouraged me all the way down. He then took us into the caves explaining the history of the quarry as we went. We then climbed back up and had the opportunity of doing some more abseiling descents. We are a family of 5, the youngest is 13. We booked ghyll scrambling in Langdale before we arrived in the Lakes. Tim and Beth were very helpful dealing with queries before the day. We all absolutely loved the experience. Tim met us in the National Trust car park at Stickle Ghyll, he had all the gear we needed which was all in good condition (no smelly damp wet suits!) The climb was very varied and just challenging enough to make it exciting but not scary. It was fab – I highly recommend it
“Brilliant Family Fun!”
We did a half day ghyll scrambling activity, we were 2 families with 4 kids aged 13 and 11. Booking and communication was easy and seamless. All the equipment was out and ready for us on arrival and was of a really good quality and clean. The activity itself was lots and lots of fun, adults and kids all enjoyed it. Tim was informative and paid great attention to safety as well as making it a huge amount of fun. Everyone enjoyed it, the wetsuits were lovely and warm so no-one got too cold despite it being a chilly day. I would highly recommend as a fun family activity and to use this great quality service, I would definitely book more activities with Tim in the future. Thanks so much.
“A Great Day Out!”
I booked a three hour session for my husband and four children aged 17, 13, 11 and 11. They did kayaking, canoeing and bushcraft. They came home so excited and raving about it. They loved jumping off the island into the water. They desperately wanted to go back and i will definately book them in again when we go back to the Lake District.

What a brilliant morning spent with Tim near to Coniston Ghyll scrambling. This was a last minute booking but the ease at which we made the booking and the speed of the correspondence was great.
All the equipment was extremely clean and of exceptional quality and Tim made everyone feel relaxed and offered those little touches which made the experience a truly memorable day.

“The best 2 Days You Can Spend as a Family”
We’re just back from 2 days with the mighty Tim from Adventure North West that combined kayaking, canoeing, bushcraft, archery and canyoning. The party comprised a 53 year old (me!) a 40 year old and a tireless 15 year old. One of the great things was that we all got so much out of the 2 days we unanimously declared it the best adventure you can have as a family.
Tim is personable, expert, patient and the perfect instructor-host. He encouraged our teenager to test his limits safely and other party members to overcome fears, especially whilst canyoning – which was simply the most exhilarating experience a family can share!
We can’t recommend these guys enough!
“Abseiling for a 50th Birthday”
A group of 8 of us booked this for a 50th birthday activity, we had a mixed group of people who had done abseiling before and others who were very nervous about it. Instructor Tim and assistant Beth were both very helpful, friendly and in some cases persuasive encouraging and explaining all along. We met at the Three Shires pub and took a pleasant walk to Cathedral Cavern where we did the abseiling with Tim taking time to show us around the cave on the way. Once doing the abseiling Tim and Beth were both very good with Tim especially talking a nervous member of our party down the higher cliff much to her sense of achievement at having done it. On completion of the abseiling Tim and Beth took us through some of the tunnels which all added to the experience. We could not recommend Adventure North West too highly and would definitely like to use them again maybe for a different activity. Thanks for a fantastic morning we all really enjoyed it, even Sue who was so pleased she got down.

“Abseiling in Penham Quarry, Chorley!”
My friend and I wanted to go abseiling, and we wanted to try it, going forwards ! Beth tailored the 3 hour taster to our needs, and was a great help in planning the session. When we arrived at the quarry, Tim had already set up the ropes and anchours ! We had a fab 3 hours , starting off small and building, such that by the end, Tim’s excellent coaching had us confident enough to try a 100 Foot quarry face, and even going forwards !!!!
We will definitely be booking to go kayaking or bouldering in the summer
“Outstanding!”
Booked an abseiling session with a friend so we could tick it of our ‘bucket list’ (early fifties with a mid life crisis!). Absolutely delighted with our instructor, Tim. He couldn’t do enough for us and made it a really enjoyable day.
If you are unsure or nervous about these type of activities then Tim is your man! He knows how to get the best out of you whilst making sure you really enjoy the session, and doesn’t push too hard. We only had a small group so he made sure that we got lots and lots of time dangling from a rope half way down a rock face.
Looking to do ‘bouldering’ in the summer and will not hesitate to use Adventure NW again. Fantastic! Thanks.
